Tomorrow, September 10, 2016, come out to the Stony Island Arts Bank to enjoy and support the history and culture of Chicago. This event, however, is more than just a reception and tour of the building—it celebrates the restoration of a historical building and its transformation into a cultural vault for local residents to preserve their memories, experiences, and artistry. The Stony Island Arts Bank has become a prime destination for thinkers and creators to engage with the history of their very own Chicago South Side.
Hosted by the Skyline Council, this event will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and music. The stunning library features floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, and many of the features of the original bank have remained intact – such as the basement bank vault. Curatorial preference is given not to a specific genre, but to ties to place and history. Explore everything from South Side poetry to the vinyl collections of early Chicago House pioneer Frankie Knuckles.
And while you’re exploring this beautifully transformed historical bank, make sure you check out the architecture. Fully updated for functionality with minimal alterations to the original aesthetic, the new Stony Island Arts Bank features windows designed and installed by your own local window replacement company, Auburn. We were honored when we were asked to participate in such a historic revitalization. So when you’re exploring the interior of the Arts Bank tomorrow evening, make sure you also take a look at the building’s renovated exterior.
Auburn is proud to offer window replacements for commercial and residential buildings throughout the Chicago area. If you’re intrigued with our work or our mission, feel free to learn more by giving one of our friendly representatives a quick call today!
