The City of Chicago and the Chicago Teachers Union had a decision to make regarding the learning environment of their students. Many of the old turn of the century and mid-century Chicago Public Schools were not air-conditioned.

With changing weather patterns and increased academic pressures, CPS officials determined that air conditioning of classrooms was mandatory with temperatures some days exceeding 95 degrees. This made teaching and learning a heated discussion.  In some cases, classes had to be canceled to deal with the extreme heat.

The Auburn Corporation has been selected as a contractor for phases of work in the CPS Air-conditioning Program.

The scope of this installation included the deglazing of existing glass in a variety of window applications and installing new sleeves and air conditioners into a highly efficient insulated panel approved by the City of Chicago. A unique support bracket was assembled and installed on all windows by Auburn, Pipefitters, ASC Window and their many crews

The huge undertaking has been extremely successful each year due to the coordination efforts of CPS personnel, the many architectural firms attached, and the Auburn team working tirelessly to accomplish the goal of preparing these classrooms for the students of Chicago.
